Sesame Street's Grover has gone from Masterpiece Theatre parodies to a clever take on a popular TV ad. Smell Like a Monster brings a spin on Old Spice's The Man Your Man Could Smell Like ad, a viral hit since it was released. Also filmed in a single, uninterrupted take, it's meant to teach the word “on”.
The segment has been tearing up the Internet, even receiving positive praise from TMZ and the Wall Street Journal. So far, it has well over 3.6 million views.
Recently, Sesame Street debuted a Katy Perry segment from season 41 on the Internet. Bad idea. It was panned by some vocal parents, worried about how the guest dressed, as if similarly revealing outfits wouldn't be seen daily by children accompanying them to the grocery store. Smell Like a Monster may be a clever distraction from the Perry goof-up.
