Group of Buddhist Monks cited for setting off illegal fireworks

A group of Buddhist Monks were handed a citation on July 4, along with other people, for setting off illegal fireworks for the holiday. However, although the Buddhist Monks didn’t know the law because they don’t read newspapers, watch television, or listen to the radio, this is no excuse, according to the Albuquerque Fire Department Inspector Darrick Pino. He says ignorance of the law is no excuse. According to The News Observer which was reported on July 7, the citation could carry a fine of up to $500 and even 90 days in jail.

The citation wasn’t written until after the Fire Inspector and his crew found a group of people watching a fireworks show, according to CBS News which was reported on July 7. Although among the group of people letting the fireworks off were a group of Buddhist Monks, they still received a citation just like the others did.

Apparently, there was a ban on fireworks because of high fire danger. Because of the ban on fireworks, many people were handed citations, including the Monks, for using illegal fireworks. Apparently, the Monks were setting off a lot of fireworks while many people stood around and watched the show.

This just goes to show that it doesn’t matter who you are, if you ignore the law and partake in illegal activity, you will receive a ticket for a fine, jail time, or even both. Everyone has to abide by the law, no matter who they are or what they do.

It is quite odd that a group of Buddhist Monks would set off illegal fireworks seeing as how they are a very quiet group and religion. They are the last people anyone would expect to ignore the law and receive a ticket for partaking in illegal activity. Although they are a quiet religion and group, they should still know the law and abide by it like everyone else is supposed to.
