Democrats want comprehensive immigration reform and the GOP throws them a bone.
The Hill’s Mike Lillis produced an excellent report about the $659M border bill and that House Democrats will try to shoot it down. Speaker Boehner believes that he has the votes to pass the bill and send it to the Senate.
It isn’t that the “border bill” is all that bad. In fact, many Americans including Democrats want to see the children refugees sent home ASAP. The full Senate passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill and they want the entire bill taken up by the House. Therefore, they are not going for the bone.
This dysfunction is why the Congress as a 10% approval rating. If they believe President Obama has problems, wait until the new polls come out next week rating congressional performance. They could go even lower than 10%.
Meanwhile, the kids are stuck and the American taxpayers are stuck paying for them. The correct action that President Obama should have taken and could have done within his responsibility would have been to have sent the children back to their home venue accompanied by Homeland Security officials. In advance, he should have contacted the Presidents to arrange for the U.S. to set up processing shop at their airports for the purpose of working with the local governments to repatriate the children either with their families or with the aid of charitable organizations or government organizations to care for them.
The main point is that care for the children needs to happen in their country of origin, and not in the USA. There is no reason why that should not happen at the President’s direction except for politics that undermine his executing the laws of the nation. Failing to uphold and enforcing the laws of the nation is grounds for impeachment.
The main Republican in charge of the House of Representatives is a plastic medicine cap salesman and not a lawyer. Lacking qualifications for his job he too has failed to uphold and enforce the laws of the nation. Therefore, he should be impeached as well. While we’re at it, march over to the Senate where the same argument applies.
“Whip Hoyer predicts few Dems will back GOP $659M border bill
By Mike Lillis
An insignificant number of Democrats will side with Republicans in favor of their proposal addressing the southern border crisis, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) predicted Wednesday.
Democratic leaders are already whipping against the $659 million package, largely because of a provision making it easier for authorities to deport the thousands of Central American migrants who have crossed the border in recent months.
That change has been endorsed by at least three House Democrats — Reps. Henry Cuellar (Texas), Ron Barber (Ariz.) and Collin Peterson (Minn.) — but Hoyer is anticipating that few others in his caucus will back the proposal.
"There may be some; we don't think it'll be a large number," Hoyer said Wednesday morning.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) predicted Tuesday that GOP leaders will have the Republican votes needed to send the measure to the Senate, though he conceded they're still whipping support themselves.
“We've got a little more work to do," he said."
