UPDATE: 6 more weeks of winter - Phil sees shadow!
After the hard winter most of the US has faced so far, many people cannot wait for spring. If you are one of the folks craving the warm temps, watching the 2014 Groundhog Day live stream and TV results as they happen may bring hopes for some good news from the lovable groundhog.
Punxsutawney Phil, America is waiting for you!
According to a USA Today report on Feb. 1, tomorrow is Groundhog Day and it will be the first time that the Super Bowl and Groundhog Day will fall on the same date.
No one knows if that’s really good news if we are hoping for an early spring, but the Super Bowl is the last game of the fall/winter sport everyone loves, so maybe we can hang our hats on that?
If you are not sure how Phil's forecasts work, here is a quick breakdown.
The USA Today reports:
According to folklore, if it's cloudy when the groundhog emerges, the critter will leave his burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If it's a sunny day, Phil will supposedly see his shadow and, frightened, retreat back into his burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.
Now of course Phil’s forecasts are just for fun, but if he predicted an early spring this year and is correct, he could be a hero nationwide.
Last year Phil did not see his shadow, so there should have been an early spring, but it sure didn’t seem that way.
