Move over Super Bowl 2014. Groundhog Day and the big game land on the same day, but Punxsutawney Phil is still expected to enjoy the early morning spotlight, according to a Feb. 1 ABC News report. Over 20,000 fans are expected to watch the famous rodent emerge after dawn on Sunday to “predict” the weather, Punxsutawney Groundhog Club executive director Katie McDonald said. “We really don't think it will be too much of a factor for us because Phil does his prognostication so early in the morning and people have all day to get to wherever they're going to watch it that evening,” she added.

Now that Punxsutawney Phil’s revelers have decided to that Super Bowl or not, they are turning up to see him, how will the weather affect the morning’s events?

National Geographic reports that not even the Polar Votex can do put a damper on Groundhog Day 2014 festivities. Zak Lantz, editor of the Punxsutawney Spirit newspaper notes that weather forecasts indicate that this Sunday will actually be one of the warmer Groundhog Days in a while. With the recent cold weather, “I'm sure a lot of folks here are hoping for the early spring,” Lantz said.

This is the first time that the Super Bowl and Groundhog Day have landed on the same big day. According to ABC News, the closest the two have come to coinciding was in 2009, when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl, the night before Phil's forecast.

This year’s Super Bowl features the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
