"And so ye faithful, there is no shadow to see; An early Spring for you and me." So said Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog. Groundhog Day is surrounded by Pagan folklore, and thus is followed very closely by local Pagans. Not only is it held the day after the Wiccan holiday of Imbolc, but groundhog day embodies the same ideas of the hopes of spring in the winter. According to lore based on English and Scottish poetry, if a groundhog sees his shadow on this day, there will be six more weeks of winter. If not, there will be an early spring, although how early is uncertain. Sadly, if one doesn't have an official groundhog anywhere nearby, one must extrapolate the news from other groundhogs.
