Happy Groundhog Day! Americans nationwide are wondering, "Did Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, 2013?" According to CBS News Saturday morning, "Furry little Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction early Saturday — spring is coming early."
Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog, came out of his hole in Gobbler's Knob, Pennsylvania, and did NOT see his shadow. That usually means spring will come early.
Punxsutawney Phil, the Prognosticator of Prognosticators, made his prediction at 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 in front of nearly 35,000 Groundhog Day fans. Because it was overcast at Gobbler's Knob, Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow. Visit PA also Tweeted their good news—"No shadow! The 127th #GroundhogDay prediction just in from Punxsutawney Phil means more spring!"
ABC News reported Saturday, Feb. 2, "Punxsutawney Phil has made his prediction. He says expect an early spring."
Will Providence, Rhode Island See an Early Spring?
Locally here in the Providence area, it was clear today with just a few clouds. Rhode Island's weather has been up and down all winter. Earlier this week, the high temperatures were running between 50 to 60 degrees. By Groundhog Day, Saturday, Feb. 2, the temperature was in the low 20s—low enough to chill Punxsutawney Phil to the bone! If Phil lived in Rhode Island, he most likely would have seen his shadow, and we'd all be expecting six more weeks of winter.
