The Groundhog Day 2013 results are in! That ever-popular annual question of "Did Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow?" has officially been answered. During the previously-televised event, Phil brought good news for those in hope of seeing spring sooner, rather than later.
According to a report accompanied by video from CNN.com on Feb. 2, the groundhog made his yearly appearance on the special day and the "king of the groundhogs" aka "weather prophet" woke earlier this morning in front of his cheering fans. Phil then predicted there will be an early spring as he did not see his shadow. That brought a massive cheer from the crowd who had been waiting in cold weather for Phil's latest weather prediction.
Groundhog Day has become a major event each year, with thousands heading to Punxsutawney to watch the official ceremony, complete with Groundhog handlers and all sorts of fun and festivities. The event was also televised on numerous stations including CNN. Roanoke viewers were able to watch the reveal of Phil's Groundhog Day 2013 results and prediction on Cox Cable channel 33 for CNN or 1033 for CNN HD.
