Groundbreaking: National Museum for African American History and Culture today

A private groundbreaking ceremony for the National Museum for African American Heritage and Culture will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.  The event is private and not open to the public, but can be viewed from a live stream by clicking here.  

Pre-ceremony music will begin at 9:00 a.m.  D.C. native, the famed mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, The Heritage Signature Chorale under the direction of Stanley J. Thurston, acclaimed baritone Thomas Hampson and jazz pianist and the newly appointed Artistic Advisor for Jazz at The  Kennedy Center, Jason Moran, Howard University Jazz Ensemble-Afro Blue and The Madrigal Singers of St. Albans and the National Cathedral will perform.

President Barack Obama is slated to give remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for the first museum on the National Mall devoted exclusively African American Culture.
