Sloppy Joes is the meal that everyone loves – they are so much better than plain hamburgers. The best part is that it takes very few ingredients and no more than 15 minutes. This easy and quick recipe has a taste that appeals to all ages, as sloppy joes are a throw-back to everyone’s childhood. The perfect answer to the question “What’s for dinner?”
Where did Sloppy Joes originate? Was there ever a Joe? It appears that a couple restaurants (one in Florida – which is called Sloppy Joes -- and one in Iowa) lay claim to the invention, but food timeline.org makes the assumption that it was a way for people to use less meat by adding things to it. It seems to tie it in with “loose meat sandwiches” popular in the 1930s and 1940s.
This particular recipe is from a cookbook for kids from the 1960s. It’s absolutely a recipe that’s easy enough for kids to prepare and it’s appealing enough for everyone’s palate.
