This ground beef casserole is easy to make and it is one of those recipes that everyone absolutely loves! Who doesn’t like tater tots and hamburger? These goodies are layered with cheese and an easy sauce, then the whole thing is covered with those wonderfully tasty French-fried onions. Sometimes you just have to go for the comfort and forget about the calories.
If you’re interested in cutting the calories a little, use the low sodium cream of chicken soup, fat free milk, and less cheese. Using lean ground beef and draining it well will also lessen calories.
Don’t omit the French fried onions, however – these are well worth the calories! If you’ve never purchased a can of French-fried onions, you are in for a treat. You will find them in the canned vegetable aisle of your local grocery store. These little gems add a crunchy and delightfully tasting topping to many dishes – you will love them on the top of this casserole.
This dish was originally titled “Teen-ager Casserole; it’s hard to know if it is because it’s easy enough for a teenager to make or delicious enough that every teenager loves it. You be the judge!
