The Wayne County Medical Examiner, following autopsy, ruled the death of marketing executive Jane Bashara a homicide Thursday, finding that her death was caused by strangulation.
The Grosse Pointe Park businesswoman was last seen leaving a meeting at the DTE Energy offices downtown at about 4:00 PM Tuesday.
Her body was discovered the following morning. A tow truck driver looking for stolen vehicles found Bashara’s Mercedes Benz SUV at around 7:00 AM in an alley off Pinewood in the 7 Mile and Hoover area on Detroit’s east side.
Bashara’s body was found in the back seat.
The key question is how the SUV ended up six miles from her home in that east side alley.
To answer that question, the DPD is “looking at everything, all possibilities,” said spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens.
Bashara lived with her husband Bob and two children. Bob Bashara believes Jane did return home after her Tuesday afternoon meeting, but was not home when Bob arrived at about 8:00 PM.
Bob Bashara believes his wife left on an errand, but as hours passed he could not reach her by telephone. He declared his wife missing at about 11:30 PM Tuesday night.
Jane Bashara’s body was found with evidence of trauma to her throat, chest and back, reports WXYZ-7.
Police found her purse in her vehicle, but it had no money in it.
