According to the Canadian Press, Calgary native Rosalind Groenewoud won the silver medal at a World Cup competition in Copper Mountain, Colorado on Friday.
Groenewoud posted a time of 79.2 points. American Maddie Bowman won the gold medal with 84.6 points, while American Brita Sigourney of the United States won the bronze medal with 79 points.
According to Groenewoud's coach, Trennon Paynter, one thing Groenewoud needs to do better to compete with Bowman is to improve on the height of her jumps when executing her tricks.
This is Groenewoud's sixth World Cup medal, with her lone gold medal coming at a competition in Kreischberg, Austria on January 21, 2011. Groenewoud also won the gold medal in women's halfpipe skiing at the 2011 World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Park City, Utah.
Men's and women's halfpipe skiing will be making its debut at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi next February.
