The film will make its premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival on January 19.

Set during the 1970s in Hollywood, "Low Down" is described as a "deeply melodic film that weaves effortlessly through time, transporting us through Amy and Joe’s journey."

At the heart of the film are powerful performances from Elle Fanning and John Hawkes, "whose tender portrayals of Amy and Joe draw the audience into the powerful and unique love between a father and his daughter."

The cast includes Peter Dinklage, Glenn Close, Lena Headey, and Flea. The script was written by Topper Lilien and Amy Albany, based on her memoir.

Preiss is a New York filmmaker who emerged in the 1980s through his involvement with experimental cinema.

He was codirector of the pioneering Lower East Side venue Films Charas.

In 1987, he shot a series of short films and two feature documentaries, "Broken Noses" and "Let's Get Lost," director Bruce Weber.

"Let’s Get Lost" won the Venice Film Festival Cinecritica Award and received an Academy Award nomination for best documentary. Both films screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

Preiss's "Low Down" will premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic category.
