Grits & Grillades for Mardi Gras!

Central Louisiana is puttin' on the Ritz at Kitchen Warehouse, located at 1133 MacArthur Drive in Alexandria. The adorable Euro stow, sandwiched between Burger King and Atwood's, is offering authentic grits and grillades for the week of Mardi Gras, from February 11-15. If you "consider the term FOOD SNOB to be a generous compliment," then you need to shake your tail feathers right over there! Owner Mimi Kirzner will make you welcome and her lifelong sidekick Pam Rubin will see to the Southern hospitality.

The expanded new location (about a year) celebrates carnival in style by "taking gourmet to the next level." Mimi's message to "fellow snobs" is to "prepare your palates!" Count on the most aristocratic thing that ever could have been invented by The Earl of Sandwich. Mimi's Grilled Cheese Bar offers an exotic array of breads, meats, and cheeses dolled up with marmalades, sauces and compotes that will make you show somethin' to be thrown somethin'. Floating by will be a parade that includes spashes of soups, praline mustard sauce, red pepper pesto, and sourdough.

Famous names from the bar include The Sweet Pig, Henry Cohn, The Red Goat, Dan Kohn, the Caprese, Bing, and even homemade pimento cheese. (Shout out to my Aunt Dot!) All sandwiches are served with sweet potato chips, and all are ooey gooey good. If it is salad you are after, depend on the Large Double Date, which features arugula tossed with DP peach balsamic vinaigrette and Mascarpone stuffed dates. How about a little onion marmalade flatbread topped with goat cheese, grape tomatoes and arugula? See, I told ya!

The best reason to party might just be the price! For less than a twenty, my sis and I made Kitchen Warehouse our weekday adventure and had money left over for dessert! Be sure to make this place part of your purple, green and gold daze! Visit them online at www.kitchenwh.com. Who ever said a warehouse couldn't be fit for royalty? Bon appetit!
