'Grimm's' David Giuntoli teases ruining Christmas and Nick and Monroe conflict

"Grimm" season 3 airs its midseason finale this week with "Cold Blooded" and "Twelve Days of Krampus," and on Monday, Dec. 9, series star David Giuntoli spoke with press about what's coming up in a different spin on Christmas, the Royals, and more.

A very "Grimm" Christmas The second episode airing Friday, "Twelve Days of Krampus," is not your usual Christmas episode. "Who knew Santa had horns?" Giuntoli laughed about the hour, based on an actual legend people have wanted to see the show cover for some time now. "We ruin Christmas for everybody, and it's gory and it's wonderful." Check out the sneak peek to the left to get a look at Krampus.

Zombie Nick consequences When the season began, Nick had been zombie-fied, and as we've seen since, it's not something he can just forget about anytime soon. "We're going to be playing on this one for a little while," the actor shared. "Every time Nick gets harmed, he's left with this kind of useful side effect, and we're going to definitely be seeing more of that after the break."

It was also while Nick had gone all zombie that he killed a man, and Captain Renard brought up the matter of killing a human versus killing Wesen. "It will come up again," Giuntoli said. "It'll be a theme that is addressed."

The secret's out The group of people "in the know" has grown, but just because Juliette knowing has made her and Nick's relationship easier doesn't mean that it will stay that way. "Oh, there's no way we're going to live happily ever after," the actor said. "I don't know what's going to happen…but I can guarantee you there's going to be something thrown into the works here."

In fact, it's Nick's "Grimm-liness" that could affect his relationship with someone else in his circle of friends, as Giuntoli teased an upcoming episode that will see some tension between Nick and Monroe. "You'll see some wavering," he said when questioned about loyalty within his group of friends. "Is Nick using Monroe? I just shot an episode where that's the central theme, and there's a big falling out between Monroe and [Nick]." Nick is going to be asking himself if he is using his friend, and when he sits down with Juliette, he admits, "I don't know. He's right. I think he's right."

However, being "in the know" isn't necessarily all it's cracked up to be. In fact, Giuntoli would rather continue to keep some people in the dark, and he pointed out that "there are dangers" that come with knowing about the world of Wesen and Grimms, both for those who find out and for Nick. That's something they'll be exploring further this season. That said, get ready for someone else to maybe find out more about what's really going on in Portland. "We're filming an episode right now where somebody else sees something for the first time," he teased.

Meanwhile, overseas… One of the major parts of this season is what's going on in Europe, and while Nick's not involved in that right now, "that's going to start changing soon," the actor explained. "The Verrat I see as kind of the SS, and the Royals, such as Captain Renard, and his cousin, who’s being introduced as Alexis Denisof, a great actor, will be having a major conflict overseas. His cousin wants to get me and access to me. And, he comes very close very soon. And then we have the resistance, a kind of group of rag-tag people trying to overthrow the Royals, so we’ll be meeting some new characters overseas doing that kind of thing. Keeping an eye on Adalind." Speaking of those characters, Giuntoli sees the Captain, Adalind, and Denisof's Viktor as the three main possible villains right now.

"Grimm" season 3 airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on NBC. After this week's midseason finale, the series returns Jan. 3. What are you hoping to see this season?
