In summer, living is easy when you rely on the backyard grill and our beloved farmers who bring us delicious locally made products. Whatever you’re grilling this weekend, pick up a jar or two of pickles, chutney, or sauce to make life easy and your mouth very happy.
Here are a couple of vendors from the markets I frequent; you may find these or other farmers with similar tasty and versatile products.
Chimichurri del Norte with Cabernet Sauvignon Oil, made for steak
Chimichurri del Norte with Lime Riesling Oil, fabulous on fish–halibut, salmon, tilapia and more–as well as chicken.

Woodring Northwest makes a wide variety of hot pepper jellies, fruit spreads and jams, and chutney.
Use as a baste while grilling—just melt pepper jelly or chutney in a saucepan over low heat and brush on meat or fish while it is grilling.
Serve additional jelly or chutney as a condiment with the meal. These fruit potions enhance the flavor of many meats, including grilled beef, lamb, pork, sausage, chicken, salmon, halibut, oysters, and spot prawns.
Try them also on cheeseburgers smothered with onions or later in summer on grilled peaches to serve over ice cream.
Off the grill, savory fruit spreads are delicious as sandwich spreads, as a small dollop on top of crackers and cheddar cheese, on a bagel with cream cheese, or to enhance deviled eggs.
Also from Woodring Northwest, you can find dill pickles, pickled green beans, and pickled asparagus. Try pickled greens beans as a garnish in your Bloody Mary. The vendor at University District states that his son likes an asparagus spear on his hot dog! We like it!
Woodring Northwest products and Parker pickles may be found in Seattle:
