Tuna was once considered unfit to eat by the people of Japan. It is now the most consumed fish in Japan and with good reason. Not only is tuna delicious but it is also rich in protein and Omega-3 fatty acids. The health benefits of eating tuna fish have been studied and it was found that consuming tuna fish can delay the onset of Alzheimer’s as well as reduce the risk of Coronary Heart Disease.
Some of these health benefits are lessened when the tuna is canned, so whenever possible you should eat fresh or frozen tuna fish. One good place to get fresh fish locally is The Shrimp Shack in Snead Ferry. They catch and sell their fish the same day so you always know it’s fresh. Fresh ingredients always taste better especially when you are making a wonderful dish like grilled tuna with mango salsa.
Grilled tuna with mango salsa is a great summer time dinner for your family. It is quick, healthy and yummy! You will need a few ingredients for this dish, if you prepare the salsa ahead of time the whole meal should only take about 15 minutes.

½ red onion diced
1 jalapeno diced
1 large handful of cilantro, chopped
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1. Combine mango, red onion, jalapeno and cilantro together ins a medium sized bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover and place in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors marry.
2. While the salsa is resting, take your tuna steaks out of the refrigerator and rub each one with a little bit of the oil, salt and pepper. Let the steaks rest on the counter for about 10 minutes.
3. Place the tuna on a HOT grill and grill 4 minutes a side for a rare to medium rare steak. For a steak that is medium to well, add an extra minute to a minute and a half on each side.
