Grigson shaking things up for the Colts

The Indianapolis Colts no doubt are undergoing an enormous transition period following their disastrous season without Peyton Manning which saw them finish the season 2-14.

And no less than a week since Colts owner Jim Irsay appointed Ryan Grigson as the new General Manager for the team, Grigson is doing just as he was hired to do, and that is shaking things up a bit in Indianapolis.

Less than a fortnight after finishing 2-14, an abundance of changes have already been made to the franchise. Following the immediate firing of a number of Colts staff including general manager, Chris Polian, Grigson was assigned as a replacement. Since the Indiana native’s hiring has gone ahead the change which made the futute restructuring most evident was the letting go of head coach Jim Caldwell.

Caldwell’s demise for some has been on the horizon for the past year, following a number of incidents which highlighted the lack of communication among the team, as well as some questionable calls made by Caldwell. One example being the wild card playoff game at home for the Colts in January of last year, which was infamously remembered when many fans spotted the noticeable look of bewilderment Manning shot Caldwell following a time out which led to the Playoff victory by the Jets.

The Colts have been reported to be looking around for Caldwell's replacement, but are said to be taking their time on the matter. They have knowingly asked permission to interview a number of offensive and defensive coordinators including defensive coordinators Jerry Gray from Tennessee, and Mike Zimmer from Cincinnati. Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael has also been approached. The latest name to be added to the list is former Vikings coach Brad Childerss; however many question whether the Colts would be better served thinking long term and taking on a college coach rather than hiring an existing coordinator from within the NFL ranks. Either way it looks like the Colts will have their hands full with more big decisions such as this in order to get them ready for next season.
