‘Grey’s Anatomy’ spoilers: Young Meredith photo, more on Mer’s sister

Season 11 of “Grey’s Anatomy” holds the promise of a great many answers to Season 10’s burning questions. For example who is Margaret, the half-sister of Meredith Grey and apparent love child of Ellis Grey and Doctor Richard Webber? International Business Times posted an Aug.20 report about that. We also have a photo of a young Meredith that will no doubt be used in flashbacks that help tell Margaret’s story.

Ellis (Kate Burton) and Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) had a torrid love affair. Richard opted to stay with his wife, Adele. Ellis’s threw her husband out to be with Richard but he opted to stay with his wife, Adele. The shocked expression Richard wore when, at the end of the Season 10 finale, Margaret identified herself as Ellis’s daughter told us he had no idea he had fathered a child.

Clearly, the writers will have to use some flashbacks to explain what happened. This is confirmed by the fact that Kate Burton, who plays Ellis, is returning to the role. Ellis has already passed away in the series so the only way she could come back is in a flashback.

That brings us to the news about young Meredith. Justin Chambers, who plays Alex Karev, shared a photo on Twitter of the young actress alongside Kevin McKidd who plays Owen Hunt on the show. Young Meredith has been portrayed twice before by different actresses, first by Nicolette Collier in Season 3 and then by Claire Geare in Season 6. We have no name for this actress but there certainly is a resemblance to Ellen Pompeo.

What is curious is that given the age of young Meredith, how did she not notice her mom was pregnant with Maggie? Burton says the flashback will help clarify this particular plot twist. She said, “I am excited to see how the whole thing plays out, “because James [Pickens Jr.] and I never really explored [the Ellis-Richard] relationship.”

The introduction of Margaret has been in the works since Season 4 according to show creator Shonda Rhimes. It was just a matter of getting to the right time to bring her in.

“Because we've all known about it for so long, it's always been layered in. It's not a thing where we're going in and backdating. It's literally always been layered into the story line. We can literally go back and pull out moments of the show and I'm excited to do so, and point out where it was talked about. It's not going to be so hard to do,” she said.
