‘Grey's Anatomy’ spoiler: Which doctors resign over hospital sale?

The promos for the episode, “Hard Bargain” showed Derek tendering his resignation to Owen which is shocking enough but in the episode which aired Thursday, Feb. 14 at 98 p.m., four other doctors also quit! If you haven’t seen the episode, be warned there is a spoiler ahead.

The Sale of the Hospital

Callie filled everyone in on what she and Weber saw when they visited another Pegasus-owned hospital and it wasn’t pretty. She and Derek advocated the doctors pooling their money to buy the hospital. Derek called his financial advisor to find out if it was even feasible and under the right set of circumstances, it was.

The problem was they needed to see a copy of the hospital’s financial statements to know what they were getting into. Cristina couldn’t ask Owen for it because he would be obligated to tell Pegasus there was another interested party or risk being fired.

After a day of trying to convince hold out Arizona to join their cause, she is convinced by what happens to a patient and the fact that Bailey is threatening to leave rather than work in a place where she has no freedom to save patients her own way.

Before the group can formulate a plan however, word comes that Pegasus is going to close the deal that night in a secret closed door meeting. The doctors have to act fast and Cristina has the answer.

Owen had explained to her earlier that if even one critical surgeon were to quit, it could sour the deal. Everything hinged on the sale being a complete package – including the doctors on staff.

Derek walks into the meeting and asks to see Owen in front of Dr. Cahill, the hospital board and the guys from Pegasus. Meredith, Callie and Arizona follow him into the room and one by one they tender their resignations. Owen looks at Cristina standing in the doorway, as does everyone else and she quits too in spite of her concerns about not being able to tell Owen the truth just yet.

With the sale of the hospital over, the doctors are hit with the finality of what they have just done. They remove their belongings from their lockers and everyone heads to Derek and Meredith’s house. They have no jobs and as of this moment, no bid to buy the hospital.

Do you think the doctors of Seattle Grace will be able to pull off their plan? Will one or more of them be forced to leave the hospital for good? What happens if they can’t pull of buying the hospital?

You can see the next new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
