When “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 returns this fall, we will find Owen (Kevin McKidd) truly on his own. After a long, drawn out break up from Cristina, he is finally going to have to fly solo but maybe not for long. Joining the cast as a series regular is Caterina Scorsone. She is playing Derek’s sister, Amelia and according to Wetpaint on Sept. 3, the two could find themselves in a romance of their own.
Amelia has appeared on the series before but also starred in the spinoff series “Private Practice.” She returned to Seattle at the end of Season 10 to seek counsel from her big brother Derek (Patrick Dempsey) as she was uncertain about marrying her fiancé back in California. She decided to stay in Seattle and end that relationship.
Both Amelia and Owen are damaged people with complicated pasts. He’s suffered from PTSD from his time as a combat doctor and she is a recovering drug addict. Sometimes these things help draw people closer together. How will that impact Owen’s friendship with Derek?
Wetpaint included a quote from its source saying, "Rumor has it sparks will indeed fly between Owen and Amelia." Is it too soon for Own to start dating?
As for Amelia, she’ll also play a role in Richard Webber’s (James Pickens Jr.) life. She and Webber end up at the same AA meeting where she’s going to overhear something that is a secret. Odds are it has to do with Maggie, the new cardiac surgeon at Grey Sloane Memorial Hospital who just happens to be Webber’s love child with Ellis Grey (Kate Burton). Whatever the secret is, it is sure to place Amelia in the thick of things at the hospital.
“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 11 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 25 on ABC. We’ll keep you posted on updates and spoilers as we get them.
