‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Shonda Rimes says no ‘fairy tale moment’ for Cristina and Owen

Cristina and Owen agreed to get divorced so that she and the other plane crash victims could receive their rightful settlements and since the divorce the pair has been happier than ever before. According to a Jan. 29 report on Wetpaint, that doesn’t mean it will clear sailing for the couple from here on out.

Even though Cristina is living in Alex’s house, the one best gal pal Meredith used to own, Cristina and Owen seem to be firing on all cylinders and the sparks of chemistry are flying between them. Fans are wondering if this means there will be a full-fledged reconciliation. Will we be seeing them back in the firehouse anytime soon?

Creator Shonda Rimes says not so fast. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rimes said, “I wouldn't say that there's hope for them returning to firehouse as a couple because I actually gave the word we could dismantle that set.”

Rimes went on to say that with their newfound happiness, the place isn’t nearly as important. The firehouse represents their past and they went through a lot of tough times in that place.

She described the couple as being on a complicated journey because of the different way they view issues like work, kids and family. With Owen facing the challenges brought on the settlement, the pair will still have obstacles to get over.

Rimes’ final word on Cristina and Owen is this:

“I've never been interested in telling story like a fairy tale. We're not headed to any fairy tale moment. But I do think that this is a couple that is going to struggle to figure out ways to remain in love."

That’s definitely good news for “Grey’s Anatomy” fans.

Episode 13, “Bad Blood,” on “Grey’s Anatomy” appears Thursday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m.
