Fans will not see much time pass between the end of season 10 and the start of season 11 on "Grey's Anatomy." Shonda Rhimes and her staff of writers are already hard at work on the new season, and the show runner revealed that less than 24 hours would pass between seasons. TV Line shared the latest scoop on season 11 on July 15. Season 11's focus is fully on Meredith as well.
A return to Meredith as the focus of the series definitely makes sense. Grey had a lot tossed at her at the end of season 10, and the biggest bomb of all has not been dropped yet. That is coming at the start of season 11. At the end of the finale, Richard discovered that the new cardio God was his long lost daughter. Rhimes revealed that this story line was in the works for quite some time, but she was waiting for the right time to put it in motion. That time came a month before the end of season 10.
Ellis Grey never revealed she had another child, so Meredith will once again need to deal with a half-sister she knew nothing about. Things with the last half-sister Meredith met did not go well. Lexie died at the end of season eight. Not only will Meredith need to deal with this familial bombshell, she will need to deal with the loss of her best friend and the potential loss of her husband. Derek wants to take the new job in D.C., and Meredith revealed to him that she wanted to stay in Seattle. Things have been rather smooth for this couple in recent seasons, so it is time to shake things up.
As for Calzona, Callie and Arizona will still explore the possibility of a surrogate, but that could cause some trouble for the couple. According to TV Guide, Shonda Rhimes teased the following about what is next for Callie and Arizona:
"The concept of the surrogate reveals more problems than it solves. They pretended a lot of things were OK when they weren't OK and it's time to face those problems. They'll either work them out or not and figure out what they want to be next."
Callie and Arizona are the opposite of Meredith and Derek the last few seasons. This couple has never had it easy. When will they catch a break? What do you think? Are you ready for the return of this series to ABC? "Grey's Anatomy" will premiere season 11 on Sept. 25.
