On Thursday, March 6 Deadline broke the news that actor Isaiah Washington will be appearing on an upcoming episode of the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy," of which he was a series regular for the first three seasons.

Washington will reprise the role of cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Preston Burke, and former love interest of Dr. Cristina Yang. Washington is returning to the series to help bring closure to the character of Dr. Cristina Yang, portrayed by actress Sandra Oh, who will be leaving the series at the end of season ten.

The actor abruptly left the television drama at the conclusion of season three, after an off-screen dispute with former cast member T. R. Knight. Washington's contract was not renewed for another season after much media controversy and his character was written off the show by leaving Yang waiting for him at the alter at their wedding.

Washington will appear in one episode, which is scheduled to air in May. It's possible that Yang could encounter Burke at an event involving the Harper Avery Award. Series creator Shonda Rhimes revealed that bringing back Washington will provide a "full circle moment needed to properly say goodbye to Dr. Cristina Yang" and Burke is an important part of that goodbye.

Washington was most recently appeared in the television pilot "The Hundred," as well as movies such as "The Trials of Cate McCall," "Doctor Bello," and "Blue Caprice." He is currently signed on to appear in the upcoming films "Yefon" and "Game Time Decision."
