Episode 16 of “Grey’s Anatomy” finally gave us the answer to what would become of Seattle Grace and its doctors when “This Is Why We fight” aired on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m.
Last week, the primary doctors and chiefs of most hospital departments resigned in a play to buy the hospital and stop the sale of Seattle Grace to Pegasus Horizons. This week, the doctors approached a gazillionaire to invest $175 million in their hospital. The group had to jump through a number of hoops to get to the final decision maker and at each level, they put on a great show.
Unbeknownst to them, the clock was running out. Dr. Cahill was able to drag the Pegasus people back to the negotiation table which made Owen ecstatic. Little did he know that the deal she was brokering was going to make mincemeat of the hospital and staff. Everyone would be let go and the hospital itself and its resources would be sold off.
Intern Heather overhears Cahill discussing this over the phone and tells Meredith, Bailey and the other interns. Pretty soon the news has spread like a California wildfire and everyone knows except Owen. He learns about it when Shane confronts him about the rumor during a surgery.
Our gazillionaire investor loves the idea until he hears that the five doctors want to be administrators. None of them has any experience and he bails on the deal. Meredith convinces Weber to join them in the role of administrator and Owen is finally brought on board. He convinces the board to delay their decision to accept the Pegasus offer. Derek and Weber pitch the new plan to our gazillionaire and he again declines leaving everyone in a near panic.
Jackson’s mom, Catherine, has stopped by the hospital and in light of the current situation, has suggested he return to Boston and takes a bigger role with the Harper Avery Foundation. He is considering it.
Then Catherine learns about the doctor’s failed coup attempt and asks how much money they need. The next morning Catherine says the Harper Avery Foundation would be happy to buy the hospital as long as they get a representative on the board. Everyone agrees until her selection is named. Get this – she turns to Avery and says “Give your mama a kiss – she just bought you a hospital!”
So Seattle Grace and its staff are saved but how will things work now that Avery is in essence the boss? Did you see this coming? Tune in next time for more excitement and drama with the “Grey’s Anatomy” gang.
