‘Grey's Anatomy’ finale: Possible terrorist attack, Mer’s life-changing choice

Shonda Rhimes never disappoints when it comes to season finales on “Grey’s Anatomy” and it looks like season 10 is going to be explosive – literally! According to the synopsis shared by Wetpaint on April 23, it looks like a possible terrorist attack will be responsible for much of the chaos. It also looks like Meredith will be making some heavy decisions that could change the course of her life.

The final episode titled “Fear (of the Unknown)” won’t air for a few more weeks – May 15 to be exact - so details are being kept to a bare minimum. In some leaked photos shared on Seattle PI, it looks like there are men in suits all over the hospital and lots of incoming patients. There is definitely something out of the ordinary going on.

It is also the very last episode for Cristina Yang. Sandra Oh, who plays Cristina, announced last year that season 10 would be her last. The final 4 episodes are the wind up to her big departure. The reason for the character’s departure is also being kept under wraps at this time.

Here’s what ABC’s synopsis for the finale says:

“In the Season 10 finale, the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital bid an emotional farewell to the beloved Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). A possible act of terrorism rocks Seattle and causes chaos at the hospital. Meanwhile, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) makes a life-changing decision, and one doctor receives shocking news.”

There is no telling what is meant by “a possible act of terrorism.” There could be a bomb planted at the hospital and that’s why the men in the suits are there. Maybe some other place is attacked and the hospital is flooded with patients, maybe a VIP patient or something. Whichever direction the show takes this, it is bound to be riveting.

As for Meredith’s “life-changing decision,” we’re perplexed. We know both Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have signed on for 2 more years. By and large, Meredith and Derek are happily married so it probably doesn’t have anything to do with that. The couple has been struggling to juggle the demands of career and kids. Could Meredith be willing to hang up her scrubs to be a stay at home mom?

“Grey's Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
