Meredith’s hormones are raging in “Walking on a Dream,” the twelfth episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” and is working to Derek’s advantage but not to intern Shane’s. The episode aired Thursday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m.
Meredith wants more sex
As her hormones run amok,, Meredith discovers she can’t seem to get enough sex. This is of course a nice surprise to Derek. As they try to couple up in the on call room, Meredith gets paged and realizes they won’t be able to seal the deal. She begins crying because she can’t have sex right now! As she leaves to take care of the emergency, Derek decides he really likes pregnancy hormones.
Crying jags and short fuses
Unfortunately, Shane Ross is on Meredith’s service and bears the brunt of her mood swings. They have a pregnant patient who is having stomach pains unrelated to her late term pregnancy. Shane brings the lab results back, Meredith discovers he didn’t order the right work up and the labs have to be done over. In the meantime, the patient slips into a coma-like state and the doctors learn her liver is failing and her body is shutting gown. She may have as little as 72 hours.
Meredith tells Shane not to speak and he tries to apologize. “Is this you not speaking?” she screams at him as the tears come again.
Shane is given the task of waiting for the call from UNOS for the replacement liver. Once the call comes in, he and Meredith go to the hospital to retrieve it from the donor. Before Meredith can instruct Shane on how to do the procedure, the nervous and verbally abused Shane starts cutting and damages the liver, rendering it unusable. Meredith scolds him severely.
When the call for the second liver comes in, Meredith is forced to get on a plane to go retrieve it with Shane. She faces her fears and does it almost effortlessly. In the OR, Shane thinks she is going to have him remove the liver again and tries to decline when she informs him that all he gets to do is hold the basin for the liver.
When the liver is removed, it is Shane that spots the mass on it and the two doctors are forced to wait for the pathology. Meanwhile, the patient’s time is slipping away. The pathology comes back clean and they are able to save the patient but not without Shane taking a verbal beating at the hands of Meredith.
