Great news for “Grey’s Anatomy” fans. Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have both signed two-year contracts to continue doing the show. E! Online broke the news on Jan. 23.

While “grey’s” has not yet been picked up for another season, this does mean that both actors are board for season 11 and 12 if they do. Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd should be around for quite a while still.

The prospects of it being picked up are good though, Recently, Paul Lee from ABC said the show had many years left in it. He praised the show’s creator and head writer, Shonda Rhimes, saying:

"[Executive producer] Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest writers that our generation has seen. She's continuing to write an immensely powerful show. It makes you laugh and cry every week, and what season are we now? And by the way, to her enormous credit, it is completely different than Scandal. And I love it. I think it's going to stay on the network for many years to come."

The show will experience at least one major cast departure. Sandra Oh announced that she would be leaving the series at the end of season 10. At the time of Oh’s announcement, Rhimes said, "I see the show going as long as I continue to be interested in the show."

Still unsigned to new contracts are Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), James Pickens, Jr., (Richard Weber) and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey).
