Tonight is the winter finale of season 10 of “Grey’s Anatomy.” Most of the buzz has been about April’s wedding but the story unfolding between Alex (Justin Chambers) and his dad (James Remar) comes to a head, according to a Dec. 12 post on Wetpaint.
Alex tells his dad, Jimmy, that he recognized him the moment he saw him and wants to know how Jimmy could have forgotten a wife and three kids. Jimmy’s answer is drugs. He says, "I remember you, though. I remember you used to laugh in your sleep … You were just a happy kid. I guess I fixed that, huh?"
During the scene, Alex tells his dad about a happy memory he has of he and his dad. They went to a rinky-dink fair and rode all the rickety rides together. Jimmy tells his son that Alex’s mother was “bug-eyed crazy” that day with paranoid delusions. That sets Alex off.
He defends his mother saying his mom was not the problem but Jimmy explains that being with her was a strain. That’s when Alex loses it and shouts back.
"Who do you think took care of her? Kept track of her? Got her committed so that she wouldn't hurt herself? Who do you think took care of your kids?" Alex yells, getting more and more infuriated by the second. "If that's your best, then you should just hang it up. Your best is worthless. I was the dad! I was a kid, but I was the dad! You were nothing! You were gone! You're worthless!"
It sounds a little soapy in writing, but Justin really sells it. In fact, the scene could be some of his best acting yet. Check it out in the video below.
