Greta Gerwig lands leading role on 'How I Met Your Dad'

Gerwig will play the role of Sally, a woman in her twenties who doesn't want to grow up. She will be recently married, but realize her marriage may not be what she thought it was. The premise of the series is the same as the original show, except in flashbacks the mother is explaining how she met her children's father. The series takes place in the same world as the original show, but the mother on that series is a different actress.

Gerwig has established a career as an independent film actress, most recently appearing in the critically acclaimed "Frances Ha," where she plays a similar character in New York City who struggles to become an adult. Gerwig will have a close group of friends just like Ted and they have many adventures in the city which teach them about life and love.

The pilot episode will be filmed in Los Angeles, but if the series is picked up the show will film in New York City. Gerwig will also serve as an executive producer on the new show and be involved in the writing process. The producers of the original series, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are also involved in the spinoff. Emily Spivey will also be joining the team.

"How I Met Your Mother" will air its final episode in March and the new series is expected to be ordered in time for the fall television season. The original show is one of the highest rated comedies for CBS over the past decade. No other casting news is available at this time.
