Zachary David Gresham, 20, of Rome has been officially charged with the murder of three-year-old Gabriella Ann "Ella" Camp of Rome.
Gresham was the boyfriend of Ella's mother and Ella was in his care at the time of the incident.
Rome Police were called to Floyd Medical Center on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 to file a report regarding the traumatic head injuries suffered by the child.
Ella was airlifted the same day to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta with traumatic head injuries and swelling of the brain. She died last Thursday after being removed from life support.
Gresham is charged with murder, first degree cruelty to children causing excessive physical or mental pain, aggravated battery and reckless conduct.
Investigators believe that the murder was committed by beating the child with the hands and fists resulting in multiple traumas to her head and body.
The investigation is still ongoing. Gresham has been held at the Floyd County jail since his arrest last Wednesday on a hold for probation violation. The new charges were added this morning.
