Greg Raymer has been arrested on charges of involving himself in a male prostitution ring. SI.com reports March 15 that the former World Series Poker Champion was busted Wednesday at a North Carolina hotel after undercover police set up an advertisement seen on a website frequently used by prostitutes.
The Wake Forest Police Department confirmed that Raymer was one of six men who arrived at the hotel in response to the advertisement.
Rayman -- known as "Fossilman" in the poker world -- and the other five men were arrested and bond was set at $1,000. They were released and have a court date of April 18.
Police Chief Jeffrey Leonard said in a statement that prostitutes conduct their business only days at a time in the same location, which "makes enforcement difficult." He said that they had the hotel's full cooperation in their undercover mission that led to the arrest of Raymer. The venue authorities selected for the prostitution sting was chosen "at random."
"Fossilman" won the 2004 World Series of Poker main event. His famous trademark is donning lizard-eye hologram glasses while playing the game. He reportedly has a home in North Carolina worth $1.6 million.
