Olympic diver Greg Louganis announced his fall wedding to longtime partner Johnny Chaillot on June 17, and the happy couple has been busy preparing for a fall wedding. Recently, the duo created a public wedding registry on MyRegistry.com, and invited friends and family to share in their celebration by helping them support important causes that are near-and-dear to their hearts.
The 53-year-old openly gay gold medalist has been HIV positive since 1988 and first spoke to Oprah Winfrey publicly about his sexuality in 1995. As Greg Louganis plans to wed his partner, 52-year-old Johnny Chaillot, the pair has put together an altruistic wedding gift registry. Not surprising, since shortly after publicly announcing his diagnosis, Greg Louganis became an outspoken HIV awareness advocate, working with the Human Rights Campaign to defend the civil liberties of the LGBT community and those afflicted with AIDS.
Johnny and Greg have asked friends and family to better the Earth, help children in third world countries and donate to gay rights because the couple wants to “make a difference in the world.”
- ‘Being Kind to Mother Earth’ addresses the ‘Greening’ of our home, because we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint on this planet.
- ‘Romance’, to support our dream honeymoon of volunteering at a leopard sanctuary, reserve and rescue to nourish our love for endangered animals.
- ‘Mending Kids', an organization that is doing magnificent work for children with birth defects in third world countries, offering and providing a 'life' for those who would never have an opportunity for any kind of quality of life.
- 'HRC', who without their tireless work, we and many others would not be able to celebrate and share in equal rights for all, with our dream of reaching to all 50 states, and beyond.
We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such love. We pray for humility, gratitude and peace in our hearts each day, 'to make everywhere we go better because we were there.'
Love and hugs,
Namaste,
Greg and Johnny
HRC is one of the largest civil rights organizations that work diligently to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. Visit MyRegistry.com to view Greg Louganis and Johnny Chaillot’s complete, altruistic wedding registry.
