Cambridge, NY – Organizers of the Tour of the Battenkill announce that 3-time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond will be the guest of honor at the 8th annual event on April 14-15 in Cambridge, NY.  The former champion of the largest professional race in the world, LeMond will attend the largest one-day road race in America –the Tour of the Battenkill - and will lead the 22 mile non-competitive ‘Bike Marathon-Battenkill’ ride on parts of the challenging course just prior to the UCI 1.2 Professional Men’s race on Sunday morning.
LeMond  - who won the Tour de France in 1986, '89, and '90 - will be attending the event in support of his foundation – 1in6 – whose mission is to help men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood live healthier, happier lives.  Partial proceeds of the ride will go to 1in6 (www.1in6.org).  Other charities for the ride include the Wounded Warriors Project

The 8th Annual Tour of the Battenkill has also secured a spot on the UCI America Tour of international professional cycling events for 2012.   The Tour of the Battenkill Professional Invitational will be just one of seven UCI-level professional events in the US in 2012, and joins ten other events on USA Cycling's National Racing Calendar (NRC) as a 1.HC race for men.

Popular among amateurs and professionals alike, the Tour of the Battenkill will feature the Pro/Am on Saturday and the professional men's UCI race on Sunday.  Nearly 3,000 racers are expected for Saturday’s Pro/Am and up to 200 professionals on Sunday’s UCI event. The challenging course – set in
Upstate New York’s Washington County - features difficult climbs and several dirt road sections.  The Pro/Am is 62 miles while the professional UCI race is a 2-lap/124 mile course.  Kids races and family activities are also planned throughout the weekend in conjunction with the event expo beginning on Friday.

The Battenkill Spring Preview Ride is also scheduled for Sunday, March 25 in Cambridge where more than 500 participants  - racers and non-racers - are expected for the non-competitive and scenic ride on the 62 mile Pro/Am course.

The Pro/Am event is also part of the Great American Cycling Series that includes several challenging Pro/Am events in 2012.  Details of the series will be announced in the coming days.
