Hughes Development Corporation, developers of the One in downtown Greenville, South Carolina have announced that One has received its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification from the United States Green Building Council. That gives Greenville the distinction of being home to the largest gold certified building in South Carolina.
Also announced was the addition of the family-owned major retailer Orvis to the One development. It will be located in the 5,000-square-foot corner at the intersection of Washington Street and One City Plaza beside Tupolo Honey Café and a new parking garage which will be underneath an Aloft Hotel.
Vermont-based Orvis began in 1865 and sells hunting and fishing equipment, outdoor apparel and supplies. It claims to be the oldest mail order outfitter in the United States as well as the longest continually operating fly fishing business. The Orvis website lists "gifts, home furnishings, luggage, pet items, shotguns, knives and sporting clays" as items it sells. It also offers fishing and shooting lessons and vacation packages.
The store is projected to open in the fall of 2014. Support it as one of Greenville's environmentally friendly stores because the company contributes five percent of its pre-tax profits annually to protect nature, support communities and advance canine health and well-being. Its nature projects can be viewed on the website. Some examples are a canine cancer campaign, restoration of oyster reefs in Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 1,000 miles Campaign of reconnecting rivers, Fish Forever Belize, and Petfinder Foundation Dog Rescue, all with matching grants.
Sign up on the website to receive Orvis emails and get $10 off on the first purchase of $50 or more. It is unknown how many jobs will be available at the new Greenville Orvis, but the job openings can be viewed on the website as well.
