Greenville County Animal Care Services offers $15 cat neutering on December 7

Greenville County Animals Care Services will offer a discount on cat neuters, their Facebook page reported.

The event, called Tomcat Blitz Neuter-a-Thon, will be held on Saturday, December 7. This is a fraction of the rate charged by a private vet, which can run as high as $100 for a male cat.

Neutering a male cat is a simple and fast operation with minimum risk. The actual procedure only takes a few minutes, and the recovery time is only a couple of days.

Not only does neutering prevent cat reproduction, it also helps with the problem of cat spraying. Most males never develop this habit if neutered young, or cease doing it if surgery is preformed on an adult male.

Even outdoor cats benefit from neutering. While intact males have up to a two-mile radius as their hunting grounds, a neutered male will stay much closer to home.

To set up an appointment for Saturday, please call (864)467-SPAY. The shelter is located at 328 Furman Hall Road in Greenville.
