Greensky Bluegrass (GSBG) performs at the Paradise Rock Club, 967 Commonwealth Ave in Boston on Friday January 24th, starting at 8:00PM.
The band is made up of Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Mike Devol (upright bass), and Paul Hoffman (mandolin), and hails from Kalamazoo Michigan.
Greensky Bluegrass earned the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition in 2006, and has released seven albums since 2004. The band has shared the stage with others such as Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Sam Bush, Ralph Stanley, and the Avett Brothers.
GSBG performed in 2011 at San Francisco's Hardley Strictly bluegrass event, which hosted over 600,000 people over the three day event. Artists such as Robert Plant, Patty Griffin, Steve Earle, Dr. John, John Prine, and Emmylou Harris took part in this music festival, free to the public.
"We bring bluegrass to people who aren't familiar with it. Often I’m told, 'I don’t even like bluegrass but you guys are great,'" said Hoffman. "We're the gateway for some people; I think that's an important tradition."
