"Peace UCC (United Church of Christ) is a congregation that welcomes all people, no exceptions. We provide a program where each member and visitor feels welcome, can grow in faith and love for one another and can express their faith through a variety of outreach programs within Greensboro and around the world. Worship services are a blend of traditional and contemporary with special music provided by our adult choir and our hand bell choir.
We are not a large congregation, with about 100 persons in worship each Sunday morning at 10:45. At 9:45 we have Sunday School that includes several adult classes as well as classes for children of all ages. We have a number of fellowship groups, from our Youth Fellowship, to our Men's Fellowship and four circles in our Women's Fellowship, to our senior group, VSP (Very Special People), all of which meet monthly.
We have a very extensive mission and outreach program. Mobile Meals are distributed from Peace Church every Monday through Friday. Our "Hands-On" group meets regularly to sew and stuff pillows for cancer and heart patients. The day before Easter we offer an "Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival" for the neighborhood, which drew over 750 children and adults in 2009. The first Sunday evening in December we hold an Alternate Christmas Market where we encourage Alternate Gift Giving by selling shares of animals through Heifer International and honor cards in support of the Greensboro Urban Ministry. Through our "Mission of the Month" we learn about and support one or two different missions every month, from programs in Greensboro to world-wide programs to the three children we "sponsor" in Haiti, Botswana and the Philippines."
Rev. John Dieterly has been the pastor of the congregation for the past four years. Pastor Dieterly has had extensive experience working for mission programs in many countries, including Ghana, Ecuador, Belize and China, as well as Appalachia in our own country.
