The EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival is underway now through May 19, 2013. A nice FREE hands on demonstration (after your paid EPCOT admission) takes place in Future World at the Festival Center next to Mission Space. Two classes are offered daily at 11am and 2pm. Arrive early as the open seats with plant giveaways tend to fill up early due to the enormous popularity. The class can only accept around eighty people max. When the seats are full, you can still listen and watch the speaker in the hallway.
The class I attended was titled “A Christmas in springtime". An experienced Disney horticulturist gave inside information on how they prepare all the resorts and the parks for the holiday season. He explained the work, planning, and coordination involved having all the holiday decorations in what he called “show ready" condition for the guests.
As a bonus at the end of the talk, you will do some type of hands on planting. The course I attended had a Christmas cactus to be placed into a ceramic pot. You were able to keep the plant and a large pink tote bag was given out that had the EPCOT International Flower and Garden festival printed on it. A very nice FREE souvenir gift to take home. The Garden Center courses are the only area I know of in Epcot that gives a FREE gift to take home.
EPCOT International Flower and Garden festival souvenirs can be purchased throughout the park. The festival merchandise this year includes garden mug with Minnie Mouse, Grumpy and Dopey garden statuary, limited release EPCOT International Flower & Garden trading pin, and Women’s and Ladies t-shirts.
