If your idea of a perfect way to spend a weekend is to be surrounded by culinary delights to sample and cooking demonstrations then you must head for Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan for their special Fall Flavor Weekends being held September 28-29 and October 5-6. It is approximately a 2.5 hour drive from Cleveland.
Fall Flavor Weekends Located at The Henry Ford Museum complex, Greenfield Village is playing host to Fall Flavor Weekends featuring daily cooking demonstrations at the family homes, farmhouses and the plantation within the Village.
Among some of the foods that you will see being prepared during the two weekends are stuffed squash, fricasseed chicken, German potato salad, ham noodles, Brown Betty (Firestone Farm), chicken potpie, stuffed cabbage, beef hotch-potch, pumpkin fritters (Ford Home) and pork chops smothered in lemon, stuffed eggplant with ham, peach cobbler and gingerbread (Maddox Family Home).
The Adams Family Home will feature salty ham bakes in apple cider, rabbit pie, Heidelberg cabbage and apple pie while the Edison Homestead will be cooking baked bean soup, cauliflower a la parmesan and gingerbread apple pudding.
The Susquehanna Plantation will have baked shrimp and rice, squash pie, baked sweet potato pone and kiss cakes and at the Daggett Farmhouse there will be roast lamb with celery sauce, roast beef, Johnnycakes and sweet potato pudding.
Visitors will also be able to watch demonstrations of the threshing of wheat (by a 1904 threshing machine powered by a Port Huron steam engine) at the Firestone Farm field.
Be sure to stop at the Greenfield Village Store for some free tastings of the savory foods being cooked throughout the Village.
Fall Flavor Weekends will also feature cooking demonstrations with Chef Michael Trombley, The Henry Ford's Greenfield Village executive chef.
There will also be an open-air Farmer's Market with lots of local fresh produce, baking mixes, local grains, organic breads, meats, honey, apples, pumpkins and handcrafted creations from Greenfield Village's Herb Society available for purchase.
Hours for Greenfield Village are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.. Admission to Fall Flavor Weekends is free with regular admission to Greenfield Village which is $24 for adults, $22 for seniors (62+) and $17.50 for youth (5-12). Children 4 and under are free. Parking is $5 per vehicle. Admission and parking for members are free.
