Greene county loses waste center

The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek waste center will not reopen this season. Residents will have to find an alternative to dispose of leaves, grass and brush.

“The two biggest reasons for this decision is budgetary and location,” Mark Schlagheck, city manager said.

Currently, Rumpke who handles the weekly trash collection is accepting yard waste that is bundled or bagged. An alternative deposable method is to take waste to BioSource on US Rt. 68 in Xenia or Eco Greene Recycling Enterprises in Fairborn. Construction waste can be taken to Xenia Demolition Landfill.

“It’s a shame that we won’t have something closer,” council member, Elaine Middlesetter said. “It’s not too far but it is all that way to Xenia.

There is no disposable fee for Greene County residents and no special brown bags required. The situation with the waste removal sites are subject to change but this is where is stands for now.

“The county has a solid waste plan that comes up for renewal every ten years. This is the last year of the ten year plan so another plan is being developed that is going through the EPA for review,” Schlagheck said. “There will be another opportunity to talk about this again.
