Green updates are defined as environmentally friendly updates. And environmentally friendly updates improve the quality and experience of living in a home.
Feng shui updates have often been thought of as Chinese decorating or the use of Asian objects and accessories – luckily, it’s much broader than that. When feng shui focuses on comfort, safety and health, it embraces environmentally friendly options.
There are many low cost options available that support good feng shui and target energy savings, clean water and clean air.
- To reduce energy consumption add motion-sensor switches in bathrooms and closets. These switches will automatically turn lights on and off when people come and go.
- To improve water quality install an under-counter filtration unit for filtered water at the kitchen sink. Choose a unit by a company such as Kohler or GE for name recognition and value perception if you intend to sell your home in the near future. A water filtration unit not only provides you with clean drinking water, it also cuts down the use of bottled water, which in turn reduces waste in landfills. It’s a simple and very effective update.
- To improve air quality, always use paints that have low or no VOC’s. VOC stands for volatile organic compound – this is the component in paint that creates the ‘paint’ smell and that causes off-gassing within your home.
- If you’re in the market for new appliances, choose Energy Star certified appliances. These appliances use less energy and /or water and they’re available at every price range.
- If you are remodeling your bathrooms, choose low flow faucets and showerheads and dual-flush toilets to reduce the quantity of water used for everyday conveniences.
The best feng shui is preventative feng shui and environmentally friendly updates improve the quality of your living environment while supporting your health.
