A start-up company only six years old is making green strides in the toy niche for babies and preschoolers. Green Toys™ was born with the vision of providing environmentally friendly and socially responsible children’s products made in the USA.
Green Toys has pioneered the use of recycled materials in children’s products. The company’s Green ToysTM toy line and Green EatsTM tableware line are made with 100% recycled plastic, primarily from recycled milk containers. This food-safe, eco-friendly material contains no BPA, phthalates, PVC or melamine. The milk jugs are curbside-collected in California, where Green Toys conducts all phases of its operations, including toy design, manufacturing, assembly and distribution.
Co-founders Robert von Goeben and Laurie Hyman began Green Toys Inc. in 2007 with the simple idea that parents want to feel good about the products they give their children. Why not use recycled materials that primarily come from child consumables anyhow?- mainly plastic milk jugs that contain a mainstay product kids need for healthy growth and development.
The Original Green Toys™ line, including the best-selling Green Toys™ Tea Set, debuted in early 2008 and was an instant hit with kids, parents and retailers.
Launched in 2009, the iconic Green ToysTM Recycling Truck may now be the best-known eco-toy on the planet. Toy stores around the world make it the centerpiece of their eco-friendly product displays. Much more than a cool vehicle, the Green Toys Recycling Truck teaches kids how to do to their part in protecting the Earth.
My First Green Toys™, a line designed for babies and toddlers, was released in March 2010 as a result of consumer demand for safer products for younger children and has received high acclaim. The Green Toys™ Stacker was praised for its ultra-safe, no-post design, and the Green Toys™ Tugboat, a colorful bath toy with a fun and useful spout feature, surpassed all sales projections to become one of the company’s top-selling items.
Green Toys Inc. expanded into new categories in 2011 with highly-demanded, innovative play food products to accompany its popular kitchen play sets, as well as the launch of Green Eats, a complete line of recycled, reusable tableware for kids.
In 2012, the company extended its best-selling vehicle, play food, and preschool building lines with earth-friendly products that engage young minds and spark healthy habits.
The 2013 line features more toys little one can play with. Play is the key word: toys that allow little ones to move, build, imagine, and create instead of sitting and passively watching videos and playing repetitive games created by someone else.
The 2013 toys feature a rocket with two astronauts, a detachable space capsule and everything a little astronaut needs to explore outer space. The Ferry Boat makes bath time an aquatic adventure as cars journey around the tub between sudsy destinations. The tractor with its chunky, go-anywhere tires and a detachable rear trailer, allows little farmers to harvest and haul the freshest organic produce their imaginations can grow.
For babies the First Keys unlocks the door to safe, eco-friendly teething. As with all Green Toys, they are made from 100% recycled plastic milk jugs that save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For older babes the Shape Sorter has no posts or sharp edges ans is user friendly oval shaped for little hands.
Green Toys products are sold via online retailers and at more than 5,000 specialty stores worldwide including Whole Foods, Saks 5th Avenue, Barnes and Noble, Nordstrom and Pottery Barn.
