Green tea may be the answer to healthy aging

Tea is the world’s second most consumed beverage, after water. Just ask the tea drinkers gathering at tea houses in Atlanta, who sip on a variety of teas, for a variety of reasons.

Tea has been long used for medicinal and health purposes, and now there’s a study that claims elderly adults who regularly drink green tea may stay more agile and independent than their peers over time.

A new Japanese study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Researchers, with Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, followed nearly 14,000 adults aged 65 and older for three years. During that time the study showed, elderly adults who regularly drink green tea are less likely to develop functional disability or problems with daily activities as they age.

Those drinking five cups a day or more were more likely to stay agile and independent versus those who consumed less than a cup a day.Antioxidants in green tea are believed to be the beneficial nutrients, as they can help ward off cell damage that can lead to disease.
