The 38th Annual Fremont Fair is a funky, festive start to the summer, and takes place this weekend (June 20-21, 2009). According to the Fair website, it celebrates "the Summer Solstice and the best of our community: art, spirit, sharing, celebration and working together to help each other."
In addition to the typical food, vendor booths, and music stages found at many of the local fairs and festivals, the Fremont Fair includes the Solstice Parade, the Big Purple Slide (40-foot high fun for kids and adults), the Fremont Abbey (hands-on art activities), the Ecozone (footprint-reduction information), the "I Heart Rummage" sale, the University of Washington Botanic Gardens (up-close and hands-on activities), and the Seattle Art Car Blowout (third largest in the country).
For Mainstage and Waterfront Stage schedules, as well as a list of all other featured activities, visit www.fremontfair.org or pick up an Official 2009 Fremont Fair Program.
The Fremont Fair draws quite a crowd to the smallish Fremont community (particularly for the Parade on Saturday morning), so bring patient positive attitudes and take public transportation. (Otherwise be prepared to spend some time finding legitimate parking and doing some walking.) Directions to the Fair and a map of the Parade’s route can be found at www.fremontfair.org/getting-here.
The Fremont Fair is open 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Further information can be obtained via the links provided below, or by emailing info@fremontfair.org or calling 206.297.6801.
The Fremont Fair is free and benefits Solid Ground, "a local human services agency dedicated to fighting poverty and reducing neglect." All cash donations go to Solid Ground; donations of non-perishable food items (to be dropped off at the Comcast booth by the Waterfront Stage) go to the FamilyWorks food bank.
