Green Lantern animated series in the works

Green Lantern has long been this columnists favorite character at DC (and has the merchandise and collection to prove it). That being said, it's a great time to be a GL fan because there is no shortage of goodness coming out from DC!

Blackest Night recently wrapped up and (SPOILER ALERT!) the isn't wiped out in a black gooey mess of zombie deliciousness. Brightest Day has spawned out of that mini-series, chronicling the events of those resurrected at the end of the Blackest Night. The core Green Lantern comics have never been more successful; having spawned spin-offs Green Lantern Corps and Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors.

A little less than a year ago, DC Direct released a direct-to-disc movie entitled Green Lantern: First Flight which was well received and moderately successful. In case you missed it, here's the trailer:

You're welcome. There is a Green Lantern live-action movie in the works, scheduled for release on June 17th, 2011. This movie stars Ryan Reynolds (Blade: Trinity, X-men Origins: Wolverine) as Hal Jordan and Blake Lively (Accepted & whatever Gossip Girl is) as his love interest Carol Ferris, with Martin Campbell directing. Campbell's credits include Casino Royale, GoldenEye, both recent Zorro movies and Edge of Darkness; so hopefully he'll draw from the former experiences and not the latter.

As if that weren't enough, knowledge has surfaced of a Green Lantern animated series that will be aired on Cartoon Network not long after the movie is released (What?! When the Blu-ray goes on sale?! Of all the crackpot screwball ideas.) So rejoice, corps members! For good or ill, Green Lantern is getting his time to shine in the emerald spotlight like never before!
