Green knitting: eco-friendly yarns

April 20, 2010

Earth Day is April 22nd, what better time to explore green knitting!

Eco-friendly yarn is yarn made from renewable, sustainable, resources that have no or very few synthetic ingredients.  Included are organic yarns, (certified by the Organic Trade Association), and yarns made from recycled natural fibers.  A complete list of organic and eco-friendly yarns can be found at  greenknitter.com.

Not only are eco-friendly yarns good for the environment , they also look good too.  Knitting Daily, a public television show, did a segment with WEBS- America's Yarn Store  owner Kathy Elkins, reviewing eco-friendly yarns.

Starting on April 21- 26, Purlescence Yarns in Sunnyvale is celebrating Earth Day by offering 40% off Lorna's Laces Green Line yarns.  They also carry a number of other earth friendly yarns.

So your mission this Earth Day is to explore eco-friendly yarns and "go green" with your knitting.
