Green Jobs Program at Laney College, deadlines as early as May 12

Looking for a “green” job, either in a hands-on, technical role or in sales and customer service? Thanks to economic stimulus funds, Laney College in Oakland is taking applicants for new Green Jobs Programs that will prepare job seekers for employment in the growing "green building" sector.

If you’re just finding out about this now, you need to act fast because applications are due as early as May 14, 2010 and you may need to take an assessment test as soon as Wednesday, May 12.

The programs include:

Oakland Green Jobs Corps: Energy Efficiency Retrofitting and Auditing Program
This is a 6-month program that includes performing energy audits, energy efficiency upgrades, and installing water efficiency and solar systems. There will also be a certificate program, which is expected to be approved in the fall.

Energy Efficiency Sales and Auditing Program
This 10-week program is for careers in sales, outreach and customer service in the clean energy economy.
They’re looking for students who “love to work with people, have a passion for customer education, and enjoy selling something they believe in.”

Laney is one of the Peralta community colleges. Fees are well within the means of the vast majority of job seekers, and financial aid is available if needed.
