Graphic design often results in printed material. This material is printed on paper, and that paper is made from trees. (Who knew?) Every business card, brochure, and wedding invitation has to be printed on something. There are options for making the best decisions for your design footprint.

Re-nourish helps designers make environmentally conscious design decisions. In the video Eric Benson talks about his vision, the site, and the project calculator.

Printed designs can sometimes be avoided. Much content can be shared online. When it is necessary to create something on paper, you can always use this paper finder to create something with a smaller footprint.

There is a section about greener ink options on the site. Soy based inks are becoming a popular way to print. However, some argue that they aren't as green as we think.

Re-nourish isn't the only company working for this cause. Celery Design has an eco tools section. There are whole printing and design companies that have an eco "pitch" in their advertising.

Printing is obviously the biggest piece of this puzzle. Printed designs need paper and they need ink. Green options are becoming easier to find and use. The consumer is asking for these options more and more, as more people become environmentally conscious.
